J.W. Morrissette, associate head of Illinois Theatre, will be honored as the recipient of the Illinois Theatre Association’s 2023 Award of Excellence in College/University Theatre. The awards presentation will be during the award luncheon as part of the Illinois Theatre Association’s Annual Members Celebration which will be held in Downers Grove on August 26.
Each year, the Illinois Theatre Association (ITA) recognizes both individuals and organizations for their significant contributions of promoting quality theatre throughout the state of Illinois. Prof. Morrissette was nominated by the Illinois theatre community, approved by ITA’s divisional representatives, and accepted by ITA’s Board of Directors
J.W. has served in our department for 28 years! Prior to his role as associate head, he has served as chair of the BFA Theatre Studies Program, the assistant head for academic programs, as well as the assistant program coordinator for INNER VOICES Social Issues Theatre. J.W. has been integral in developing components for the online course offerings in the department as well as supervising all senior Theatre Studies Thesis Projects. His classes include Acting, Directing, Introduction to Theatre Arts, and Broadway Musicals. J.W. has received the Provost’s Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award as well as the College of Fine and Applied Arts Specialized Faculty Award for Excellence.
