About Valleri Robinson
Biography
Valleri Robinson, author of Russian Culture and Theatrical Performance in America (2011), teaches courses in documentary theatre, Chekhov in translation and adaptation, theatre historiography, and 21st century dramaturgy at the University of Illinois. She is currently writing the book, Belarusian Theatre and the 2020 Pro-Democracy Protests: Documenting the Resistance (under contract with Anthem Press). In 2014, Valleri was a Fulbright Scholar working with the Kolyada Theatre in Ekaterinburg, Russia. In the Spring of 2020, she was a Resident Fellow at NYU’s Center for Ballet and the Arts in Spring 2020. In 2022, she hosted Belarusian Playwright, Andrei Kureichik, as a George A. Miller Visiting Artist, co-sponsored by REEEC, with the project, “Documentary Theatre as Resistance.” Together, they presented the results of their project at the Ukrainian Theatre Festival Melponeme Tavrii in June 2022. As a 2021-22 Public Voices Fellow of the OpEd Project, Valleri published opinion pieces in the Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, Public Seminar, and United Press International. Her articles and reviews are published in Theatre Journal, the New England Theatre Journal, Contemporary Theatre Review, and elsewhere. She is an affiliate of the Russian, East European, Eurasian Center and an affiliate faculty member in Slavic Languages and Literatures.
